👎 NOT Many women who have a hysterectomy leave the operating room not even knowing which of their organs were removed. “This is unacceptable,” says Midi’s founder, Joanna Strober. “Women are having their ovaries removed without understanding that there may be lifelong consequences: heart disease, osteoporosis, cognitive decline, shorter life expectancy.” And this is particularly the case if they are not given the option of appropriate hormone therapy.
At Midi, we’re committed to better patient education and informed consent (we see far too many women with severe symptoms because they weren’t offered appropriate hormone therapy after their surgery). If you’ve had—or are planning to have a hysterectomy—book a visit to learn more about your options. |

There are many fad diets out there, but know that you don’t have to follow any of them during menopause. That’s because—despite what you may see on your social media feed—there’s no singular “best” diet. Instead, there are a range of balanced eating patterns considered healthy for midlife.
What’s most important, say Midi’s experts, is choosing an eating pattern you find enjoyable and can maintain over the long haul. For many women, that will be eating a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats.
That said, the foods you choose can make it easier to manage menopause symptoms. For example, low-fat dairy—think yogurt and cottage cheese—is packed with calcium and vitamin D, which help fortify your bones against osteopenia and osteoporosis. (Dropping estrogen makes women vulnerable to bone loss during menopause.)
