Hot or Not?

🔥 HOT

What we’re reading: The Tell, a new memoir by Amy Griffin, founder of G9 Ventures (a Midi investor!). In her book, Griffin “probes the pursuit of perfectionism, control, and maintaining appearances that drives so many women, asking the question: When, in our path from girlhood to womanhood, did we learn to look outside ourselves for validation? And what kind of freedom is possible if we accept who we really are?” Add the book to your reading list—and scroll to the end of this newsletter for 11 more great books for Women’s History Month.

👎 NOT

In a podcast discussion with Dr. Mary Claire Haver, Gwyneth Paltrow shared that during the L.A. wildfires, she began drinking alcohol nightly, which worsened her menopause symptoms. “My symptoms were completely out of control. It was the first time I really noticed causation in that way,” Paltrow said.

She’s not alone in this experience—many women find alcohol amplifies their menopause symptoms, but cutting back can make a big difference. Midi offers personalized solutions—from GLP-1 medications to lifestyle changes—that can help cut back on drinking, ease symptoms, and lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and more. Schedule a virtual visit with a Midi clinician to create a personalized Care Plan tailored to your goals around alcohol.

Meno News

File this under “Yep, we already knew that”: A new study presented at the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health 2025 Annual Meeting shows that hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can effectively alleviate low mood in menopausal women and potentially reduce the need for antidepressants. Researchers found that combining testosterone with HRT had the most significant impact on mood, though further research is still needed.

This comes as no surprise to us at Midi. We regularly see women who’ve been prescribed antidepressants for menopause-related symptoms, yet have found little to no relief. It’s a good reminder that while HRT may not be the right solution for everyone, it’s essential to partner with a clinician who is committed to exploring all available treatment options. At Midi, we prioritize listening to your symptoms and offering personalized solutions.

Midi Diaries

Jackye C., 51

“You are not overreacting.”

I was miserable. The kind of miserable where even basic daily life felt impossible. After my hysterectomy (I still have my ovaries), I expected some changes, but I didn’t expect to feel like I was barely holding on.

I told a friend about what I was experiencing and they told me about Midi. I had an appointment and guess what? One $5 estrogen patch changed my entire life.

I went from struggling to function to feeling like me again. And that’s what makes me the most mad. How many women are out here suffering just because doctors don’t take us seriously? How many of us are told it’s “normal” when it’s absolutely not?

So if you’re in it right now, hear me when I say this: You are not overreacting. You don’t have to just deal with it. If something feels off, keep pushing. Find a clinician who listens. Because this idea that misery is just the price of getting older? Nope. Not buying it.

Inspired by Jackye’s story and ready to discover how expert support can transform your midlife journey? You’re just a few quick steps away from booking your first visit with a Midi clinician.

Ask a Midi Clinician

Q: I started getting frequent UTIs during menopause—what’s going on?

The expert: Mindy Goldman, Midi’s Chief Clinical Officer

A: This may surprise you but your chance of getting a urinary tract infection (UTI) jumps once you reach menopause. It’s not because of anything you’re doing (or not doing)—it’s your hormones.

Changes in estrogen levels during the menopause transition cause the tissue around the bladder to become thinner and urethra muscles to weaken. That makes it easier for bacteria to travel up to the bladder. To make matters worse, estrogen decline changes the natural flora of the vagina, which may allow bacteria to flourish.

Your Midi clinician can help prevent future UTIs. Two go-to solutions that may be recommended depending on your situation: Vaginal estrogen (can normalize the pH of the vagina to restore helpful bacteria that can prevent recurrent UTIs) and probiotics (shown to reduce the risk of UTIs in postmenopausal women).
