Why the "Lowest Dose" Isn't Always Best for HRT

When it comes to progesterone, many women who come to Midi assume the lowest dose = safest, but that’s just another menopause myth. The misunderstanding stems from outdated information about older synthetic hormonesβ€”not the natural and bioidentical progesterone prescribed today at Midi.

Here’s what to know now:

  • Progesterone plays a key role in HRT. For women with a uterus, it’s used alongside estrogen. Progesterone protects the uterine lining from abnormal growths and potential cancer while estrogen relieves symptoms like hot flashes, brain fog, and poor sleep.

  • Too little progesterone can be a problem. If progesterone is too low relative to estrogen, it may not properly protect the uterine lining. And because progesterone can also support sleep and mood, a very low dose means you may miss out on those benefits.

  • The right dose depends on you. At Midi, we dose progesterone based on your unique symptoms. Many women begin with 100 mg nightly, and then we adjust as needed.

The bottom line: You don’t have to figure this out on your own. Midi clinicians specialize in HRT and tailor your HRT dose to your body, symptoms, and safety.

Q:

β€œHow do I know if I’m done with menopause?"

A:

Let’s rip the truth bandaid off: You’re never actually β€œdone” with menopause.

While hot flashes and other symptoms may ease over time, menopause marks a lasting hormonal shift. Once you reach it, you’re in the postmenopause stage for the rest of your life. And the drop in estrogen during this transition can impact your long-term health, increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and more.

What we tell Midi patients: You can manage these risk factors. With the right treatment and support, you can help protect your health. And in many cases, earlier care leads to better outcomes.
